When you first see a shipping container, you're probably not going to be impressed. You probably also won't think that it looks like a decent home. It won't make you want to pack your stuff, take your family and move into one immediately. However, if you give it some thought and google it a bit, you'll find out that a shipping container, or perhaps a couple of them can become a great home.
Shipping containers cost around $1500-$3000 depending on the size, which is a lot cheaper than buying a house. So why pay more if you can get the desired home for a fraction of the money you would normally have to spend? Even if you take the amount of work it still comes out cheaper than buying or building a house. Shipping containers are quite big and sturdy, and they're also readily portable and you can stack them on top of each other if you want. Basically, if you want to design your home, shipping containers are the easiest way to do it. Try painting them any color, and you can add as many windows as you like. You can make a whole side of it into a huge window, if you wish. You can cover the outside or the inside of it with bricks or any other building material you want and just use them as a stencil for your home.
If you're still not convinced, let me just say that shipping container homes can look incredibly modern and stylish. Plus, you'd be reusing things, so it's even better for the environment. To summarize, a shipping container is a cheaper, cooler and more flexible way to build a home. Sounds pretty good to me. Plus you get to brag to everyone about how your home is better than theirs.
